My good friend Charlotte Hughes and I have teamd up to create a series of books featuring these two characters, ande they´ve taken on a life of their own! These books are not set in the same world as my Sthephine Plum novels, but what they have in common are lovable, dysfunctional charactars, villains you love to hate, and a cross-eyed way of looking at life. ![]() ![]() ![]() His non fiction book, The Dangerous Book for Boys, co-authored with his brother, was the most talked about bestseller of the year. He gathered other outsiders to him, creating a new tribal identity. It was a rough introduction to his life, to a sudden adult world, but Temujin survived, learning to combat natural and human threats. His family were thrown out of the tribe and left alone, without food or shelter, to starve to death on the harsh Mongolian plains. Temujin, the second son of the khan of the Wolves tribe, was only eleven when his father died in an ambush. I am the land and the bones of the hills. Unlike the last two letters where I reposted reviews of books that I have really loved, this time I am choosing to focus on the letter C in two different ways - the author is Conn Iggulden, and the series is known as the Conqueror series about Genghis Khan, and these are new reviews! I decided to create a mysterious employer known only as Mr. ![]() I’d just finished reading a book my best friend/critique partner wrote that included a thief, which is no doubt why I decided that Rosemary and her family should be a gang of street thieves with an unusual code of honor. This combined with my above idea until I had a reclusive writer of adventure novels, who chose to use a pen name so no one knew he was of German descent. For instance, artists-painters, writers, you name it-were employed by the British government to include pro-war propaganda in their works. ![]() What if, I wondered, there were other Englishmen of German descent who considered doing the same?įrom there I just started doing some general WWI English research and happened across more tidbits that intrigued me. The mystery to be solved in this Poirot instalment is a classic Christie, with a country house, questions over inheritance and, of course, poisoning. The dynamic of the pair is very much reminiscent of Holmes and Watson and, much like in the Sherlock Holmes stories, we see the mystery from the perspective of Hastings, the Watson of the duo. Hastings appears in several, though not all, of the Poirot novels. This, it turns out, was an excellent choice.Īlthough it is possible to dip in and out of Christie’s books, I’m very glad I chose to read the first, as it provided a good introduction to the characters of Poirot and Hastings. ![]() The Mysterious Affair at Styles is both Christie’s first published novel and the first Poirot book. This time, I decided to go back to the very beginning and see where it all started. I have previously read four of Christie’s novels – a rather random selection.
